The
Chinese
Association
of
Woking
(CAW)
was
formed
in
1987
as
a
non-profit-making
voluntary
organisation.
It
is
the
cultural,
educational
and
social
heart
of
the
Chinese
community.
Members
and
their
families
are
based
in
and
around
the
Woking
area.
Most
come
from
Mainland
China,
Taiwan,
Hong
Kong,
Singapore
and
Malaysia;
others
from
Britain
and
other
nations.

Anyone may join as a full
member and all memberships automatically give family memberships.

Objectives
To
improve
education
within
the
Chinese
community:
- To promote Chinese
education for the Chinese community
through setting up Chinese language
classes in Mandarin and Cantonese and
through advanced learning activities
that are associated with the spoken and
written Chinese languages, geography,
history, music, art and food etc.
- To develop further
information-technology skills by setting
up classes and projects
To benefit the Chinese community:
- To understand and
address the needs of the Chinese
community through the provision of
interpreting and translating services
- To
improve the
physical and mental well-being
of the
Chinese community by organising
health
talks, community programmes,
outings, community gatherings and formal Chinese-festival activities
- To help and
support the community, through
establishing new groups and services or
participating in existing ones
- To provide access
to information of government
welfare, education, housing and health
services
- To encourage
integration with the wider community by
celebrating and sharing our cultures
- To promote better
understanding of Britain's culture and
people through involvement with cultural
exchange programmes and other community
events
- To
raise
funds
for a Chinese community centre in order to
facilitate the above services and
activities
